Dealing with insects in your outdoor trash bin is a common and frustrating problem. The good news is that preventing them is easier than you might think. A quick rinse with a hose and a scrub using a mixture of vinegar and water or a mild bleach solution can remove sticky residues and odors that lure pests. Consider sprinkling a layer of baking soda at the bottom of the clean bin to absorb future smells. For natural repellents, try placing a few dryer sheets, bay leaves, or cedar blocks in the bottom of the bin, as many insects dislike these scents. Most importantly, ensure the lid always closes tightly. If your bin's lid is damaged or doesn't seal well, consider repairing it or using a bungee cord to secure it. Placing your bin in a shaded, cool spot can also help, as heat accelerates decay and odor. By combining these simple steps—sealing bags, cleaning regularly, using repellents, and securing the lid—you can dramatically reduce insect visits and keep your outdoor area cleaner.
