For a small park entrance, I’d usually aim for a 32- to 45-gallon urban trash can. If the entrance is low to moderate traffic, a 32-gallon bin is often the sweet spot: it has enough capacity for daily use, but it doesn’t take up too much space or block sightlines. For a busier entrance, especially near a playground, dog park, or transit stop, a 45-gallon can is a better choice because it holds more waste and needs less frequent emptying.
A 40-gallon can can be a good compromise if you want extra capacity without a bulky footprint. Whatever size you choose, make sure it has a lid, a secure liner system, and a level pad for servicing. Also leave enough clearance around it so people can use it easily and staff can empty it without struggling. In most small park entrances, one well-placed 32- to 45-gallon can—or two smaller cans on busy sides—works better than one oversized bin that looks crowded and is hard to service.
