You can use a ground anchor kit from a hardware store to tether the bin to the ground, or create a simple anchor point by sinking a heavy eye bolt into a concrete patch near your collection spot. For a less permanent solution, try placing your bin behind a fixed object like a fence post, large planter, or a heavy piece of outdoor furniture. You can also make the bin less appealing to thieves by marking it clearly with your house number in permanent paint, which makes it easily identifiable and harder to resell. Finally, general yard security helps. Motion-sensor lights or a visible security camera can deter not just bin thieves, but other porch pirates as well.
