Common Problems and Effective Solutions for Urban Trash Cans

How do I remove sticky sap from the lid of my urban trash can?

Dealing with sticky tree sap on your urban trash can lid is a common nuisance, but it's easier to fix than you might think. First, put on a pair of gloves. For fresh sap, a simple method is to rub a little cooking oil (like vegetable or olive oil) onto the residue. Let it sit for a few minutes to break down the sap, then wipe it away with a paper towel or cloth. For dried, stubborn sap, rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) is highly effective. Dampen a cloth with it and scrub the spot until the sap dissolves. You can also make a paste from baking soda and water, apply it, let it sit, and then scrub gently. Finish by washing the lid with warm, soapy water to remove any oily or alcoholic residue, leaving your bin clean and sap-free.
