Honestly, it depends on the type of urban trash can. Small public litter bins, usually around 30–80 L, often weigh about 5–20 kg empty, and one person can normally empty them if they are bagged and not overloaded. Standard wheelie bins are heavier: a 120 L bin is often around 10–15 kg empty and 50–70 kg full; a 240 L bin is roughly 14–20 kg empty and 80–120 kg full; and a 360 L bin can be 20–25 kg empty and 120–180 kg full. The really large 660 L and 1,100 L containers can weigh 35–70 kg empty and several hundred kilos when full.
So, can one person move them for emptying? Yes for small litter bins and empty or lightly loaded wheeled bins on flat ground, assuming the wheels, lid, and handle are in good condition. A single worker can also wheel a 120 L or 240 L bin to the truck and use a compatible lifting mechanism. But I would not ask one person to manually lift and tip a full 240 L bin, and 360 L+ bins should be handled with a truck lifter or by a trained team. Overfilled bins, stairs, curbs, and damaged wheels make it much harder and increase injury risk. If you are checking a specific bin, look for its litre capacity and empty weight on the label, and follow your local manual-handling rules.
