URBAN TRASH CANS

Honestly, there is no single perfect capacity, because the right bin size depends on passenger flow, waste volume, and how often your cleaning team can empty it. For most train station platforms, an 80–120 litre urban trash bin per waste point is a practical starting point. It is large enough to handle normal commuter waste without becoming too heavy to service, and it does not take up too much platform space. If the platform is quiet or has frequent collections, 60–80 litres may be enough. For busy stations with high footfall, peak-hour crowds, or limited emptying times, go for around 100–240 litres, but use wheeled or easy-lift designs and plan for multiple collections per day. I would avoid placing one huge bin on a platform just to reduce emptying trips. Oversized bins can become heavy, smellier, and more likely to overflow, and they may get in the way of passenger movement or emergency access. In most cases, several well-placed 80–120 litre bins are better than one 240 litre bin. Also check bag size, lid design, fire safety, weather resistance, and whether you need separate general waste and recycling streams. Place bins near entrances, exits, seating areas, and high-traffic corners, but keep them clear of platform edges and evacuation routes. If you can share your daily passenger numbers and cleaning schedule, you can size the bins more accurately: roughly estimate peak waste volume per hour, divide it by planned emptying frequency, and add a 20–30% buffer.
