That's an excellent and very practical question. We completely understand the concern—there's nothing worse than lids flying off and trash scattering in a storm. I'm happy to share that our outdoor URBAN TRASH CANS are engineered specifically to tackle this challenge.
The wind resistance of our lids comes from a combination of design and material choices. First, the lids are made from heavy-duty, high-density polyethylene, which has significant weight to resist being easily lifted. More importantly, they feature a deep, channeled rim that creates a secure "seal" or overlap with the bin's body. This design acts like a baffle, disrupting wind flow and preventing it from getting underneath to flip the lid.
For our standard models, the lids are tested to stay securely in place in sustained winds up to 40-45 mph. For our commercial-grade bins, that rating is even higher. The integrated hinge system is also reinforced, allowing the lid to pivot smoothly without becoming a weak point. In very high winds, the lid may rattle slightly—this is a normal pressure-release feature—but it is designed to stay latched and in place.
We achieve this through rigorous real-world and wind tunnel testing, simulating storm conditions to refine the shape and weight distribution. So, while no lid is 100% hurricane-proof, you can trust our URBAN TRASH CANS to keep contents secure and the area clean through typical strong winds and sudden gusts. It's all about providing reliable performance for city environments where weather can be unpredictable.
